Power BI Government Cloud – Bubble Map Visual Rendering Issue

I am experiencing a rendering issue with the legacy Bubble Map visual (green globe icon) in the Power BI Government cloud (app.powerbigov.us).

Environment

  • Power BI Government Service (app.powerbigov.us)
  • Report published to Service
  • Legacy Bubble Map visual
  • Large transit dataset with latitude/longitude timepoints
  • Same PBIX and dataset have been functioning for months

Current Behavior

When viewing the published report from a desktop browser:

  • Google Chrome: Bubble map does not render
  • Microsoft Edge: Bubble map does not render
  • Mozilla Firefox: Bubble map does not render

In some cases, the visual displays:

"Too many 'Longitude' values. Not displaying all data. Filter the data or choose another field."

Other times, the map simply remains blank.

Unexpected Findings

The exact same published report renders correctly on a mobile phone browser.

In addition:

  • Power BI Desktop renders the visual correctly.
  • Mobile browser renders correctly.
  • Desktop browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) consistently fail.
  • The issue persists even after installing Firefox to eliminate Chromium-specific concerns.

Data Volume

The report contains transit timepoint data and can exceed one million records when multiple months are selected.

However:

  • This volume previously rendered successfully in the Service.
  • The same volume currently renders successfully in Power BI Desktop.
  • The same volume currently renders successfully on mobile browsers.

This suggests the issue is not with the dataset itself.

Questions

  1. Have there been recent changes to map rendering limits or behavior in Power BI Government cloud?
  2. Has the transition from Bing Maps to Azure Maps affected the legacy Bubble Map visual?
  3. Is the desktop web experience using a different rendering path than the mobile experience?
  4. Are there known regressions affecting map visuals in app.powerbigov.us?

Based on testing, this appears to be a Service-side rendering issue specific to desktop web browsers rather than a data, browser, or PBIX problem.
