Power BI Desktop Report Unable to Connect to Data Model in Power BI Service

Hello,

I keep getting the error below whenever I open a pbix file on desktop that is connected to a data model in PBI service. Also it has been taking a very long time to open even small pbix files on desktop. These issues just began occurring receently since last week sporadically. The error message gets resolved after manually refreshing a report pbix file, but the wasted time dealing with these issues is accumulating. Is there a bug due to recent PBI desktop app updates? I have the August 2024 version and no other changes were made to my environment.

I have access, permissions and the models have not been deleted. I have tried other semantic models, none of them is working.

The problem is only in Desktop. Everything works fine in Service.

Error Message:
We couldn't connect to your model in the Power BI Service. The dataset may have been deleted, renamed, moved, or it is possible that you don't have permission to access it.

Hi @pa_pbi

Power BI Desktop has been updated to version : 2.135.7627.0 (9/20/2024) . Please update your PBI Desktop to the latest version and then try to connect to data model again . You need to uninstall the PBI Desktop program in the Control Panel and then download the latest installer from Download Center to install it.

Download Microsoft Power BI Desktop from Official Microsoft Download Center

Yes, that helped, thanks! I wonder if the issues were occurring while Microsoft was working on updating/releasing the new version, since even before installing the new version, files were opening normally again today. Either way, glad the issue is resolved.

Hi @pa_pbi

Microsoft store had a bit of a problem updating the program, but it's been fixed later. Glad your problem has been fixed. I will change the status to "Delivered" .
