PowerBI Desktop Refresh Failing - System.Threading.Tasks.Extensions failed PostgreSQL

Hi there,

 

I am encountering an issue while refreshing data from my postgresql db. When refreshing in PowerBI Desktop MS Store version I get the following error:
Please install Npgsql version 4.0.10.0 or earlier.

When I refresh in the web downloaded version for the same db I get this error:
Loading assembly file 'System.Threading.Tasks.Extensions, Version=4.2.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=cc7b13ffcd2ddd51' failed for data source type 'PostgreSQL'

I have looked at the versions for the .dll's in their respective directories and can see the following versions:
Npgsql 4.0.10.0
System.Threading.Tasks.Extensions 4.6.28619.1

These are the versions that are installed when I have removed then reinstalled PowerBI Desktop either via MS store or the web.

Important Note:
This started happening spontaneously, the refresh was working fine one day then the next I encountered these errors. The connection is fine and the credentials are correct, as I can connect via DBeaver with the same creds. I have tried to look for the 4.2.0.0 dll for System.Threading.Tasks.Extensions but cannot see it available online

Please let me know how I can get around this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

About what time did you update the program in the Store yesterday? What was the updated version? Currently a new version of PBI Desktop (2.135.7627.0) deployed to the Microsoft Store. You can try updating this version of the program and then try refreshing your data in Desktop to see if there are any errors reported.

I have updated to Version: 2.135.7627.0 64-bit (August 2024). I tried the refresh again but I am now greeted with this error message:
Loading assembly file 'System.Threading.Tasks.Extensions, Version=4.2.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=cc7b13ffcd2ddd51' failed for data source type 'PostgreSQL'

This happens even after I cleared the cache and reopened PowerBI. This is the same error I get on the web downloaded version as well.
