Using Power BI Desktop app

Trying to open my .pbix file that I saved about 20mins ago, there were no crashes or problems, and I receive this error:

Devastated, as I use this .pbix file daily.

No amount of Google searching has uncovered any answers. Any clues?

Status: Investigating

Hi @jasonnaylor ,

Did other reports work fine but just this one failed? If so, according to the error message, seems like the file was not saved properly. Likely cause was Desktop process was killed before it finished saving the file to disk.

Do you have a copy of the file somewhere or can you download a pbix from the Service? If not, please try the solution in this thread: Solved: File contains corrupted data - Microsoft Power BI Community
When you reinstall the Desktop, please go through this link:

Download Microsoft Power BI Desktop from Official Microsoft Download Center

I am having the same issue. Any resolution on this? Seems like it happened after the new update.

I am having the same issue and have a ton of very important reports linked to this. I turned back the file and the version of powerbi desktop to April's release. I am hoping the next release will have this fixed because this is a huge issue for my enterprise.

@yankeesten1 I ended up reverting back to an older version of the file (THANKFULLY I was working on versions) and it works, from my perspective definitely a Save corruption. I've been very careful with my .pbix files from now on and backing them up very regularly, making very small changes and saving consistently, etc. Reminds me of how we had to handle files in the 90s!

Glad that worked for you!

What month's release are you working with right now? Are you on the most recent?

In my testing, saving the existing file using the latest release seems to cause the issue. It would save but upon reopening it would give one of several errors. One error stated that I needed to reduce or simply the queries in PoweryQuery. Another error made reference to a JSON issue.

After I rolled the file and software back, it gave me 0 issues. I assume I am going to have continue using the April release and testing each subsequent release for these issues.

Something significant happened in the last couple of months because if I save an existing file with the July release and try to open it with the April it is no longer compatible, if you try to open it with the July release it spits out errors. Should be stated that my model is a behemoth with over 100 queries.

@yankeesten1 , no - I'm on an older version, because I'm scared to update:

Version: 2.116.622.0 64-bit (April 2023)
