Matrix row sorting (tabluar mode) does not sort

Hi All,

I have the following PowerBi with a matrix set up in tabular mode.  Sorting works for the "Project Code" field (first field in the matrix), but sorting on subsequent rows does not work (ie "Project Name" or "Some Other Value").  Clicking the row header does not change the sort order.

Thanks!

Ben.

Status: Delivered

Hi @bhalicki,

Thanks for your feedback, but unfortunately this is a feature that is not currently supported, If you would like to suggest this feature improvements, you can vote for an idea of the same type that already exists here

It is the right place for customers provide feedback about Microsoft Office products . What’s more, if a feedback is high voted there by other customers, it will be promising that Microsoft Product Team will take it into consideration when designing the next version in the future.

Edit: It does work if I update the data model and sort the "Project Name" column by the "Project Code" field, however, this isn't always an option as duplicate project names may exist for multiple project codes.

Hi Caitlyn,

Thank you for your response, much appreciated.

I understand that this is a missing feature, but given the option to select the column and the sorting arrow toggles (as if to sort the column), this feels more like a bug in the matrix visualisation.  Would you mind taking another look and discussing with engineers?  If so, could you please reopen the issue rather than setting the status to 'Delivered'?

I am more than happy to provide a test dashboard to help with the issue resolution process.

Kind regards,

Ben.

For anyone else following this issue, a fix for this issue has not been "delivered" as the status of this ticket suggests.  Microsoft appear to be responding to issues and marking as "delivered", indicating a response has been delivered (but not necessarily resolved).  Very misleading for anyone trying to understand why their report behaves the way it does.

Hi @bhalicki ,

First , let's discuss your problem, why we recognize it as a desgin rather than a bug. Because the matrix has a hierarchical structure and the sorting is based on Column 1, in your hierarchy there is only one row of data, so it can't be sorted. If we modify your sample to have multiple rows of data, you can see my picture below:

About the status, I understand your concern, but the issue forum is intended to help users submit bugs or fix temporary issues with existing features.
For features that are not supported in the current version, we can't send your comments and suggestions to the product team, as I mentioned in my comment above, you need to go to the idea forum to ask other users for their opinions and add details, that's the channel where PG really understands the users' needs.
According to our policy, for such unsupported features, since the issue engineers are not able to provide more support, we are required to change the thread status and direct customers to the idea forum. The delivered status is to let other users know that this is a design issue and not a glitch.

Since this is the place for bug reports and not for technical development, PG encourages users to go to the idea forums to discuss feature improvements. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Best regards.
