Matrix Column Auto-size

Hi there,

So similar to tables and matrixs' there is an option on the new matrix preview to turn on or off column auto-sizing. Even after I turn this off in the preview though it seems to still resize when I drill up/down. This is the only step preventing me from moving a report from Excel into PBI Desktop right now since it makes it difficult to size the object if it constantly widens and narrows.

Thanks,
Reid

Just wanted to add an additional comment to Herbert's comment above:

"The “Auto size” when switched to off, is not supposed to control this case, i.e. it is not supposed to transfer the sizes of the removed instances to the new ones, it only ensures that the same instance will not change in size during any operations you perform like sorting, filtering, etc.."

This is not the case. I have tried drilling down, resizing columns with auto size off and also on. No matter what i do all instances continually resize making the entire use awkward.

I am having an issue with column's resizing with the option off, then when I turn it back on (bacause it reszied them too small) the columns REFUSE to get wide enough for any number. I can manually fix it, but then they shrink again.

This is with the August 2017 update.

I've sent the feedback to the product team, and they will take a look at it.

Thank you...I suspect it's a big issue to a much broader audience than the team realizes.  There are sooo many use cases which need a fixed column width and setting the width for each column heading is unworkable.  Let us know what the response is.

Much appreciated,

Tom

The same problem here, I keep waiting for this issue to be resolved.

Still having same issue. Column widths often resize even when only switching between report tabs, without using any filters.

I'm having the issue as well, and it's with a simple matrix. The main problem for me is that I need the matrix columns to align with visuals below each column, but that's impossible if they keep resizing. This happens if I filter as well as when switching between report tabs without filtering.

Now that's a great use case for needing fixed column widths.  I'm sure there are WAY more uses for fixed widths than variable...but who cares...we really do need to be able to set a fixed column width.  Tom

hi guys, while not a fix, i did figure out a work round.  i created a seperate table with the coloumn headers in one coloumn and a second coloumn with number of chars rerequired for each coloumn heading (i.e. "xxx1 for column 1 which will format to 4 char width) I then linked the tables using the column headers. using the second column allows me to not only stop the autoformat from changing the table, but it also allowed me to select "show all items with no data" and have it work correctly.  the final trick is to make the text of the header the same as your background, then create a card with the headers you required, place the card over the table headers and there you go.

hope this helps some one out, it was bugging me for most of the morning. an example of this is attached.

(a fix to sto it autoformatting would be so much better though....)

cheers
