Issue displaying on PowerBI services using DirectQuery

Hi there,

I've built a dashboard on PowerBI desktop, without experiencing any issues. However, when I publish to PowerBI Services, I get the following error:

Couldn't load the data for this visual

Couldn't retrieve the data for this visual. Please try again later.
Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details.

However, when I change to import mode, the issue is resolved. 

Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated.

1. What's the data source?

2. Did you create a proper data gateway for the data source?

3. Did all the visual have this error message? Or just part of them?

4. What's the version of the Desktop?

1. The data source is a SQL Database

2. Do I need to create a data gateway for a SQL server database?

3. Yes, all the visuals. I also created a POC with only a single table containing three entries, which also fails

4. I'm using Desktop v2.56.5023.861 64-bit.

Its a problem with Direct Queries which Microsoft is trying to resolve:

Hi @kdonahue100, 

Thank you for the feedback. It seemed like I had the same issue as you referred to, but after completion of their work, I still get the same errors. 

Any ideas further? 

@v-jiascu-msft Do you maybe have any recommendations for me?

Hi Johan,

Do you have a data Gateway installed? What's the size of the data model? Please refer to desktop-directquery-about#implications-of-using-directquery. If you have a Pro account, I would suggest you open a support ticket here.
