Conditional Formatting GUI bug is preventing editing or adding cond. format to tables/matrices

I have GUI bug that is specifc to a single .pbix file. It is no longer possible for me to add or edit conditional formatting in tables or matrices. Whenever the window pops up, the field selection drop down will be bordered in red, and I cannot select anything from the dropdown. This goes for all 3 format styles of Gradient, Rules & Field value. The conditional formatting window works fine in other reports.

Version: 2.129.905.0 64-bit (May 2024)

What I have tried:

- Disabling all preview features

- Removing all data and pages

- Changed to a stock PBI theme

- Saving it as .pbip, .pbit and .pbix

- Opening on a separate workstation

What I have not tried

- Opening in a previous version, since PBI Desktop will not open newer files using an older version.

The report in question is a rather large project that I can't just do over. The only current workaround is for me to do the formatting in a separate report with a similar semantic model metadata and copy over the relevant visual. This is not sustainable.

I have uploaded the stripped down version of the report file in question:

Let me know if you need any other information.

Hi @MHW

I see that there are 2 fields to choose from inside the drop down box .  What is the effect you are trying to achieve?

Hi @Anonymous

I am trying to add any conditional formatting to tables or matrix visuals. Nothing works at all in this very specific file. I cannot add conditional background, font color or icons. It does not matter whether it is conditionally based on a integers, text, measures, columns or really anything.

The Power BI Desktop client GUI simply bugs out. Clicking anything in the drop down of "What field should we base this on?" does nothing, meaning the "OK" button remains grey.

Hi again @Anonymous

Do you need any other information or for me to elaborate further?
