I have a simple situation, in which there is an on premise MD cube that is consumed by PowerBI. In this MD cube, I of course have a lot of calculated measures that give the YTD, LY_YTD (last year - year to date) etc etc. Basically, all these measures use the CurrentMember property of a certain time hierarchy.   To reproduce the problem, you only need a couple of things: - A MD cube with some proper LY measures in them: Let's say a Revenue and Revenue LY (the latter just shifts any given period to LY) - A simple PowerBI report, with a table containing year and months (from the proper hierachy), and the two measures. Add to that a slicer/filter on months and/or years to select what months to display in the table.   When you filter one single month, all seems well. The table displays the month line, and a total line copying the month values. When you select multiple months (lets say March + April + May), the Revenue is the total of the selected months. The Revenue LY is however the total of all years combined. Or...if you set a slicer with a single selection on 2018 to filter the months list, it's the total op 2018. So it only filters to single select filters * slicers, not multiple select.   And don't say this is the intended behavior: PowerBI calculates the Revenue (straight sum measure) correctly, so it's clear it does now the intention and scope of the total line.   I tested with some MDX measures what is asked from the cube hoping it would actually ask for a set { March, April, May } ... but PowerBI asks the MDX cube directly for [2018] or [All] depending on the situation. So clearly there is something wrong with how PowerBI creates the DAX or how it then translates to MDX. When PowerBI asks in a simple table for the wrong member or set... there is nothing you can do in the MDX Cube to solve it. Also, one cannot solve it through DAX, as the connection still doesn't allow calculated members on MD Cubes.   If it's smart to create DAX and not MDX directly is a whole other matter, but seeing Excel pivot tables never had issues with getting simple tables from MD cubes, I'd say PowerBI is still a huge step backwards.     Please solve this issue, as PowerBI is just not useable as a front end tool on a MD Cube this way. Best thing would be to just create MDX from PowerBI. It's easy, and it would even allow to make calculated measures in MDX through PowerBI as well to create professional solutions with a PowerBI front-end.          ... View more

Hi ,    i still get confusing , When i visualize between TY and LY the line is not overlapped.  it shown the continous , even i chnge the X to Categoral , it keeps appear like this. I found my past reports look the same but the visualization on these calculation looks fine.  i also get confusing over this , sometimes i get it fix , sometimes i don't . and the calculation i used for last year shown 2019. it should be 2017 , not 2017. i dunn have data in 2019.    ... I have a Table-type visualization. "Word wrap" is on for column headers, and I have manually re-sized practically all of the columns.   The table has many columns, and so there is a horizontal scroll bar.   Word wrapping is happening only on a few column headers toward the left side of the table (some of the "first" columns). So, when I first view the table, the height of the column headers is increased to accommodate two lines of text.   When I use the horizontal scroll bar to scroll all the way to the right, all the visible column headers (the "last" columns in my table) fit on a single line. And, if I resize one of those columns, or click one of those column headers to sort by that column, then the height of the column headers is automatically decreased, to accommodate just a single line of text in the column header. Which works for the moment, because all of the visible columns fit on a single line.   However, the problem comes when I subsequently scroll back to the left, where I have those column headers that do not fit in a single line of text. After scrolling back to the left, the height of the column headers does NOT increase again. The text in my column headers still requires multiple lines, but the column headers are not expanded to accommodate them.   This occurs in both Power BI Desktop and the Power BI Service. ... Power BI Embed web page been up for nearly a year.  All reports worked fine until a few weeks back (nearest I can tell).  Embedded model is "user owns data" using Premium workspaces.  All new reports added to workspaces and shared out, get loaded by name after call to PBIReports Reports = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<PBIReports>(reader.ReadToEnd()); but when requested to render the report, 1st a Power BI Logo appears in middle of window as usual, then a message Checking Permissions... this may take a few minutes, then "This content isn't available. Learn More about Power BI"  (see insert below).  The web page continues to render any older report but will not render any new report.  If you modify an old report that works and then publish back to the same workspace with replace, it continues to work, however if you change its name and publish it to the same work space and share, it will get the error.  Very strange. All workspaces are covered by Premium, not that it matters as I am a Pro Licensed User.  All reports in all work spaces work as intended on app.powerbi.com.  Many of these are also used in publshed to web forum and this also works for old and new reports. Only those reports that have been added new recently to any workspace do not work in the Embedded API web program.   The issue is different as the individual did not have a working embed application and I have had mine up for nearly a year.  The issue I am having is that it will not work on any new PBIX reports.  It works fine on all the older ones even if the older ones are modified.  It will not work on any new report even if that report is based on one that works as in the name is changed and it is published, the original continues to work and the new renamed copy does not work.  That makes no sense.  It does not appear to be the desktop application injecting something that embed API does like as it can modify an older report and re-publish (replace) and that report will continue to work.  Only newly named reports do not work as if there is a limit in how many can work (ridiculous) or that the infrastructure has changed in a fashion that  when a new space for report is allocated it does not work in the embed API (somewhat logical).    I have found an ugly solution.  Create a new workspace and Power BI Embed API will work with the new reports put in it (can't have old reports as anything added woudl be new ;-), now to figure out the best way to transfer all the reports or maybe it could be fixed???????   ... Hello - I am connecting to a SQL Database, and am select Import for Data Connectivity Mode.   After shaping my data in the query editor, the data source is being switched to DirectQuery mode.  This is then causing an error as I am using transformations that are not supported by DirectQuery.  Clicking the "Switch all tables to import mode" option or switching the data source back to Import with the UI in query editor both have no effect on this.   Has anyone encountered this and identified a solution? ... We were testing the printing features on both the premium services and the report server. On both plattforms we noticed a shifted layout and, using the Microsoft browsers IE and Edge, we noticed color-changes.   Information on the report: We are using the Microsoft sample data and created Layout-images which were inserted as page background. Hello,   I'm working on a project with BI. One function I'd like to implement is the map to highlight the province selected from the province list (see following Hebei example). I tried every province, most of them works fine except for Hainan province.    When I select Hainan, the map cannot find the province.   Then I tried to highlight the whole China, Hainan is not included (please see the red circle). When plotting R Script Visual, Power BI seems to output all the columns related to a .csv(UTF-8 encoding) file, then read the data into R with "read.csv" function.   The function is like this:   `dataset` = read.csv('C:/Users/***/REditorWrapper_5c23c015-1ba8-4bb0-a824-3f8179725132/input_df_73ea8250-a892-46d5-8e7d-c38f5993bbed.csv', check.names = FALSE, encoding = "UTF-8", blank.lines.skip = FALSE)     When handling data with Chinese characters, this line of code may cause a serious problem, that R cannot read the data correctly.   Mainly, R will fail to separate the data using commas. Hello,   In the PowerBI service, when users try to save as PDF (via print menue) or print to printer, the page background moves and causes the report to look quite messy. Just wondering if there is a workaround/known issue with this? In the example below you will see my background that separates the visuals on top / slicers on the side / matrix on the bottom. I want connect to Postgres ODBC data source with direct query enabled. So I took this sample project, https://github.com/Microsoft/DataConnectors/tree/master/samples/ODBC/SqlODBC, point Config_DriverName variable to "PostgreSQL Unicode(x64)" (name of my psqlODBC driver, version 03.51), and set ConnectionString based on a working ODBC DSN.   I am using Power BI Desktop, Version 2.61.5192.601 64-bit (August 2018), and there is no problem to add one table to my Power BI report.   But whenever I put a column into a table (or any other viz), I got this error: OLE DB or ODBC error: [Expression.Error] We couldn't fold the expression to the data source. Dear Community, I'm pretty new to Power BI and Custom Visuals. I'm using API v 1.10 and Report Server on prem (March 2018). Steps to replicate the bug: 1. create custom visual 2. import custom visual in Power BI Desktop for RS 3. include visual in report page 4. deploy report on report server 5. verify custom visual working fine 6. change visual guid 7. import visual in PBI Desktop again 8. use newly imported visual in report page 9. deploy report on report server 10. verify custom visual doesn't show up (javascript never executed. The rest of the report page is fine) 11. try to delete and reimport visual with old guid / with new guid or anything else 12 deploy on report server 13 verify custom visual still not working 14 import any other custom visual 15 deploy on report server 16 verifiy even other untouched custom visuals don't show up.   After deleting custom visual with new guid, when reimporting will show the 'update visual' popup..   Can you please try to replicate / help ?
