Strange behavior when saving PBIX

Hi!

I’d like to report a very serious problem related to saving a pbix file.

Here’s the scenario that I can reproduce the bug.
1) Import xlsx power pivot document (around 120mb)
: the file connected to CSVs, XLSXs and Access database
2) During import, click the Keep Connection button (or Copy Data button, result will be same)
3) After import being done, save pbix file to another name
4-1) If unlucky, after opening the same pbix file, I got the message telling there are some pending queries
* if this unlucky case occurs, the file size is 77kb.
4–2) If lucky, file successfully saved

Sometimes it’s working. but mostly doesn’t working. very strange behaviour.

My environment is Win7x64 with PBI Desktop 2018 May.
Plus, when I got unlucky, nothinh seems to be saved on both Save and Save As

odd thing is when I save as the file to another name, file size and modified date is as same as the previous one, not saving the edited details. I’ve been stucked in this situation for 2 weeks so that I just Excel PowerPivot and Tableau!

if I make a blank document and put some random data on it, then I couldn’t save the file as well. I uninstalled the application and installed it but had no effect..

Hi @flavourabbit,

Does the issue happen to all Excel Workbooks or one specific workbook? Please try with the sample workbooks to see if the same issue occurs.

Hi,

The issue happens to all Excel workbooks.

On top of that, if I create a blank pbix and put some random data on that results same.

Thanks,

CJ

Hi,

This is a serious bug report for Power BI Desktop (after Feb 2018 update)

Recently, PBI Desktop showed strange behaviour regardless of whatever I did on the file.

The problem is, PBI doesn't save the changed detail and its queried data. For instance, if I load a big sized CSV file (around 50MB) on to PBI Desktop and save it to a PBIX file, then the size of the file is just like 10kb. If I open the file again, it doesn't contain any queried data and there's a warning message saying "there are pending changes in your queries that haven't been applied". If I click the button, PBI desktop showing just processing something and what I got was there's nothing updated in the data table map. More strange thing is, if I save the file on to another name then the modified date is as same as the original file.

My company does use DRM (there's no change in the DRM policy recently) and the environment is Win7 x64, Power BI desktop 2018 May or April or March (I've used almost all of the version)

* if it set the parameter in System setting such as PBI_fastsaveload=false, then I could save sometimes but mostly it fails

After some trials and errors, I found that some change of Feb update might have affected the problem.
(I've tested March and May but they failed)
