Slicer Clearing linking issue

Hi,

I created a Power BI report and synced the month and week slicers with other pages. However, I'm encountering an issue where clearing the slicer on the Home page doesn't clear the slicers on other pages; instead, they remain on the last selected item. When I select the next month, the slicers sync properly. The problem occurs only when I untick all selections. I used the filter (Tile) method, and even when I clear with the eraser, it doesn't link to other pages, but selecting a new button works across all pages. Why isn't it syncing properly?

@Malintha I am having exactly the same issue. I am using the 'old' slicer visual and not the 'new' one.

I have two pages with a synch slicer using the same slicer group name. When an item on the slicer is ticked, then the item is ticked on the slicer on the other page. All good.

However, when I untick that item (so there are no ticked items), then the item on the slicer on the page remains ticked.

It used to work fine in the past.

This is a relatively new bug introduced I think at least a couple of months ago, as my live version has the bug and it hasn't been updated since mid-April.

I am using version 2.130.930.0.

If I create a pair of synched slicers on a new report, it works fine.

If I create a new pair of synched slicers on an existing report, it works fine.

If I use a slicer from the existing report, copy it to a new page without synching, give it a new sync group name and then duplicate it to another page, then it doesn't work when clearing the slicer items.

This is consistent behaviour on other slicers in the same report.

This is a bug - can someone at Microsoft review? I have a big model working with 150+ customers and this has already been reported by our users as a bug.

Hi @Malintha

There is no similar known issue, so there are a few issues I need to confirm to make it easier for us to determine the cause of the problem.

First of all this problem happened after Desktop was updated to 2.130.930.0. right? Does that pre-upgrade version synchronize properly? Secondly, are you guys using regular slicer or new slicer? The issue occurs when nothing is selected, the other pages can't sync, but when you select any item on the main page, the other pages can sync that option, right?

First of all this problem happened after Desktop was updated to 2.130.930.0. right? YES

Does that pre-upgrade version synchronize properly? YES

Secondly, are you guys using regular slicer or new slicer? Regular Slicer (Becasue once we create report we are not updagrading it. Just posting. after it need to work know what ever version there. Otherwise we need to update all reports. thats not possible. Thats why we are paining for license)

The issue occurs when nothing is selected, the other pages can't sync, but when you select any item on the main page, the other pages can sync that option, right?  YES

Are you telling us to use new slicer??? if i have 100 reports your telling me to recreate???

First of all this problem happened after Desktop was updated to 2.130.930.0. right? NO, it's existed for a little while - at least since the April upgrade.

Does that pre-upgrade version synchronize properly? NO

Secondly, are you guys using regular slicer or new slicer? Regular Slicer - the issue is that, in some older reports it is not working properly. If I create a brand new one, then it does.

The issue occurs when nothing is selected, the other pages can't sync, but when you select any item on the main page, the other pages can sync that option, right?  YES

@Anonymous @Malintha

I rolled back my Power BI Desktop version to 2.124.1805.0 (December 2023) and opened the current one (which was saved using the latest version). It works fine with this version.

Therefore the bug has appeared between that version and the latest version.

Please note it is not a solution to now save it using the old version because there are many other breaking changes since within the model.

Further to above, I downloaded May 2024 Power BI Desktop (2.129.1229.0) - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/fundamentals/desktop-latest-update-archive?tabs=powerbi-desktop - and the slicer synching works fine.

So it is a recent bug with the new version.

@Anonymous @Malintha (sorry for the spamming!)

In Power BI Service (app.powerbi.com) I have a version which was uploaded 20 April and it doesn't work. Therefore the Service also has the bug.

Hi @Malintha

As per your description, I am using the 2.130.930.0 version to create a slicer and set up synchronization on other pages. As you guys can see from my actions, whether it's deselecting or selecting one of them, the other pages can be synchronized as well. So can you guys provide more info on this for reference?

This affects old reports and not new reports - see my original testing comments. Therefore your testing would not find the bug. Thanks.

@Anonymous hopefully you'll be able to report back here soon?

Here's my latest two tests which should give some more understanding of the issue:

TEST 1:

  1. Install May 2024 Power BI Desktop.
  2. Open PBIX file which has the error.
  3. overwrite 'regular' slicer with new slicer (by selecting the visual and then choosing the 'new' slicer visual)
  4. It now works.
  5. Publish it to app.powerbi.com
  6. It now works.

TEST 2:

  1. Install May 2024 Power BI Desktop.
  2. Open PBIX file which has the error.
  3. overwrite 'regular' slicer with new slicer (by selecting the visual and then choosing the 'new' slicer visual) and then replace that with 'regular' slicer.
  4. It now works.
  5. Publish it to app.powerbi.com
  6. It doesn't work.
