Sign-in error in PowerBI Desktop - Authentication loop

Hi Community,

I now face this issue with multiple customers logins.

The issue is that with some of my customers logins i get stuck in an authetication loop when i try to sign into PowerBI desktop. Whenever i put in my e-mail and click "next" it just reverts back to the "enter e-mail" screen as posted below.

I can sign into the powerbi service without any problems. This error is only for PowerBI desktop authentication. It is however super frustrating because I can't upload any changes to my customers reports/datasets.

I have tried the following but the error persists:

- Create new 0365 user on the customers environment (same issue)
- Clear all passwords stored in Internet Explorer
- Clear all passwords stored in the Control panel credential manager

- Download newest version of PowerBI desktop

Anyone else experience this issue and have you found a work around?

Hi,

According to my research, a similar issue has been reported internally, so stay tuned.

Problem description: Customer is unable to sign-in in power bi desktop using account

In the latest update of this ICM, the fix for this issue is expected to be 3/2.

I will update here once I get any information.

Thank you very much!

Hi,

Have you tried to uninstall the desktop and get it from the Microsoft store to check if it can work?

Thank you very much!

Hi,

Facing the same issue. Error occurs in the store version of Power BI. I noticed that was updatd 8th of Feb, and approximately around that time my problems started.

After installing the 'regular' version of Power BI Desktop, the problem does not seem to be there.

On another machine however, even after installing the regular version, the problem still persists.

Hello!

Experiencing the same issue here as well with PowerBI Desktop continuing to loop on the email field.  I have also tried the same steps the OP outlined with no luck:

- Create new 0365 user with PowerBI Pro, or with a M365 E5 license
- Clear all passwords stored in the Control panel credential manager

- Download newest version of PowerBI desktop

I'm facing the same issue! I've tried everything from uninstalling/reinstalling Power BI (both versions, downloaded and from the store), clearing my credentials from Control Panel, and the loop persists... I'm a Pro User.

@mfafonso

Here is a workaround I found in a different article that seems to be working for now.  Hope this helps!

https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Issues/IPower-BI-Desktop-Can-t-log-in-with-user/idi-p/2303155#comme...

These steps outlined in the comments worked for me:

1: In desktop, Sign in

2: In the pop-up window, choose the account you signed in with. Then click next

3: in the same pop-up window, now click on "Can't access your account?"

4: In the next pop-up window, click on cancel

5: now, click on "use another account", add the mail address. and voila!

@eetter if only i can give you kudos on this but there isn't an option to do so on comments. You have helped save 30 mins from everyone in my company who is using PBI 😉 thanks!
