Ribbon Locks Up When Using Other Apps

I have found a similar issue to this one.  It appears if I have anything selected in another app, the ribbon in Power BI locks up and I cannot click on any of the buttons except for the save disk, undo, redo and the quick access ribon drop down.


Steps to recreate the issue:

1) Open a power bi report

2) Open another app (notepad, notepad++, word)

3) type some text into the other app

4) higlight the text in notepad / word

5) go back to Power BI and try to use the ribbon buttons

Having followed the steps above, I still can not reproduce the issue with the latest version of Power BI Desktop. To get faster and better technical support, you may directly create a support ticket.

I think this is a very broad issue.  Mine freezes just like quite a few have posted and probably many have observed.  It is not easy to replicate since it's does not seem to be what I do in Power BI itself, but rather with how it interacts with Windows apps.  I am hard pressed to believe that you have not observed this...it happens quite often!  I really don't know when the issue starts and there certainly doesn't seem to be a pattern.  My machine isn't dedicated to just Power BI...nor is that all that I do in a given period of time.  I've been restarting my computer...but read of a workaround to minimize and then expand again that worked the time I tried it tonight.  That's a great find...but it still is an issue.

 

So, how does opening a support ticket help?

I've taken a closer look at the steps I can take to have the ribbon lock up.  Bing Desktop, Edge, OneNote, and Teams are open--only MSFT products...nothing else.

 

Open a Power BI model.  Try to click the ribbon.  Nothing.

Then minimize and restore...ribbon works.  

Bone stock Dell Precision and Windows 10 Pro which autoinstalls updates automatically. Same with Power BI.

 

Now the important thing here is I'm not the only one, and it's been going on for quite some time.  This most current release seems to have the most occurances of ribbon lock...but there you have it.
