Power Query Does not Read Excel Cells formatted with Data Types added

I have an Excel file that has a list of countries. Some of the countries the newer Excel Data Type feature recognized the data as a country.  Power Query and thus Power BI do no read those cells and instead give an error. I tried this in both Power Query in Power BI and Power Query in Excel.

Below is an example of the Excel cell set with a Data Type that can not be read (has the extra symbol) and one that can be read. The next screen shot is what Power Query shows.

Is this a known issue with Power Query? Is it on the radar to be fixed anytime soon?

Hi @asjones ,

As far as I know, it doesn't seem to support this kind of data type recognition and conversion, for now.

If you would like to suggest  feature improvements, you may  vote the idea and comment here  to improve this feature. It is a place for customers provide feedback about Microsoft Office products . What’s more, if a feedback is high voted there by other customers, it will be promising that Microsoft Product Team will take it into consideration when designing the next version in the future.
