Power BI Desktop WebView2 Out Of Memory

Power BI is experiencing a problem with WebView2 running Out of memory. We have identified some of the top causes of this and have the details below. If that does not address your Out of memory problem, contact us at  pbidesktopwebview2issues@service.microsoft.com

Out of Memory cause: 

Custom visuals causing memory leak - If you are using any custom visuals and are running into Out of Memory crahses, please try removing the custom visuals to check if it resolves the issue. If it does, please reach out with the visual which was cauing the memory leak so we can address it. 

If you are not using any custom visuals and are still running into this, it could be due to having a lot of report pages and visuals per page. This causes the browser heap memory to exceed the 4GB limit and crash. This is sadly a limitation of chromium. 

Possible workaround 

• Limit the number of visuals in the report. The recommendation is to split the report into smaller reports and using cross-drillthrough - Use cross-report drillthrough in Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Docs.The cross-drillthrough feature carries through filters when using cross drill through.

I think the person with the technical information should find the spell check in Microsoft products...Would make it easier to read without all the typographical errors and misspellings.

I deleted my earlier comment about the Feb version not having the bug, its been ok on that version for a day and a half as I had created a completely new version of the same report causing issues so thought it was ok,

PowerBI Desktop füllt den Speicher, bringt alle Programme zum Absturz und zuletzt Windows (z.B. explorer.exe). Das ist kein gutes Produkt, um es nett zu schreiben.

Dabei lade ich nur drei Tabellen eines semantischen Modells mit fünf PowerQuery-Abfragen aus insgesamt ca. 40 Excel-Tabellen, die im Durchschnitt ca. 50kB groß sind. Der Bericht, der für den Absturz nicht angezeigt werden muss, enthält nur Säulendiagramme.

As of 9/12/2024 I am experiencing this issue with no visuals.

Same here, webview2 is just eating up everything . My report has only 4 pages, not overloaded by visuals. But webview2 blocks the application, even if I have freshly opened the report, went to settings and tried to change any setting. It randomly freezes and NOTHING happens for hours. in task manager, you can only see WebView2 doing something
