Power BI Desktop - Default settings & uncommon behaviour

Hello Power BI Team,

since the recent Power BI Update (July 2017) I recognised some strange/uncommon behaviour and wanted to ask if that is meant to be that way or not.

1. Standard colours set to "white"

When I insert a new visual then all default settings are applied, being white colours for the text parts. Is white the new default colour for text parts? - Asking because I have to go give it a colour everytime I insert a new visual so I can actually see/read the data values in the visual. The default white colours appear even transparent to me.

2. TAB-Key no longer works in the settings pane of the visuals

While applying settings for a visual the TAB-Key can no longer be used to leave a field/adapt the new values or settings. I found this being an quiet comfortable feature and somehow I am used to this behaviour throughout the general operation system settings/navigation. - Is this meant to be this way as of being some new navigation standard or sort of something like that? If not please bring in back the old known functionality to the TAB-key and make the text colours readable straight away after inserting a visual.

Thank you in advance.

Edit:

The arrow-keys can also not be used to adjust the positioning of the visuals.

Which visual did you create and the default color was white? I just tested on version 2.48.4792.721 (July 2017) but cannot repro the same issue. The text default color is not white and always readable.

For the tab function, do you know the PBI Desktop version which does work as expected? I tested on June 2017 version, I am also not able to use the Tab key in format pane.

The arrow key works well on my side, please refer to following gif.

Hello @v-haibl-msft,

I am using the latest same version of Power BI Desktop as you do.

1. Default colours set to "white"

-> I had an custom theme imported which I was aware of but what I did not know was that the effect also seems to apply for the text parts in the, at least, newest version. I guess at least this small part is new or it has something to do with the upgrade/GA of the new table and matrix visuals.
I had an ready report which I was using and after the July-Update my visuals changed in appearance but it goes just for the text parts (new Matrix visual) - the rest of the report still remained as before.

Thanks for the reminder for testing in default environment. 😉

PBI Desktop behaves completely appropriate in the default environment regarding this point!

2. TAB-Key no longer works in the format pane of Power BI Desktop

-> The TAB-Key functionality is still available e. g. in this version (and all other previous versions; and some versions after the january 2017th-version but I do not have them all archived to test it)

PBI_Desktop_January2017_Version.png

It used to let me tab through the settings forth and backwards with the appropriate short cuts (TAB / Shift + TAB)  being used - as seen below:

PBI_Desktop_January2017_Version_TABKey.png

I really would appreaciate this functionality being available again.

3. Arrow-Keys can not be used to adjust positioning

-> I gave you too less information about this case, sorry for that. I will improve my testing for the future posts!

I tested it according to your .GIF and it works perfectly BUT only as long as only one visual is marked at the time. In my case I had two visuals marked and trying to adjust them simultaneosly. That is where I run into the missing/not available functionality.

Arrow-Key Adjustment in Power BI Desktop works appropriately for adjusting one visual at the time! So this is definitely not a bug but maybe a little suggestion to be added in one of the future updates for PBI Desktop. ;]

Thank you for your replys- @v-haibl-msft@Vicky_Song!

For the tab key issue, I can repro the same issue as you. I’ve reported it internally to Power BI Team: CRI 43670790
I’ll post here once I get any update about it.

For the Arrow-Key Adjustment function for multiple visuals, you can create an idea or vote on existing idea in https://ideas.powerbi.com.

Thanks for your concern!

PS: Do I have to somehow "close" this topic/issue or is it okay to leave it like it is now - Status: Delivered?
