Passing Credentials in URL No Longer Working Sept 2021 Release

Hi All,

When passing through credentials in the url of a power bi report (http://user:password@reportserver/report/reportA), the web page will just display a spinning circle in the middle of the page. When refreshing the page, it will then work. This worked without issue in previous version.

Could not reproduce it in my side as far as my test. Would investigate this issue continously.

Have noticed that you have post a similar thread here which mentioned that previous version(May 2021) could mitigate this issue so you can use the previous version temporarily.

Hi Yingjie Li,

We have since rolled back to May 2021 Report Server and we are able to pass credentials in the URL now. There are a number of features we were looking forward to in the September release so it is a shame.

When trying to access a report with credentials in URL, the report would just display a spinning icon in the middle of the page indefinitely. After refreshing again, report would load.

Appreciate any assistance in getting this one solved.

Hello sorry I didn't see this thread because of holidays. Can you provide some details on what browser and version you are using? Also in May version were you using the new portal or the old portal? Is it possible to check both on your current May install (by changing the UsePortalV2 flag in the configurationInfo table of the database)

Hi Petebro,

Tried both Chrome (91.0.4472.77) and Edge (Version 96.0.1054.57). 

We have since rolled back to May. I have updated UsePortalV2 to True and re-started reporting services. The report will now no longer load when passing credentials through URL. Have tried both chrome and edge. I guess your inkling is correct and it has something to do with the new portal?

Let the page display like this for ~2 minutes:

Refreshing the page doesn't seem to fix it but clicking in the address bar and clicking enter will re-load the page and display the report using the credentials in URL. Hopefully this is enough info to get a fix?

In May if you set UsePortalV2 = false  (and then restart your PBIRS service) and try edge or chrome does the credential passing work?
