Compete to become Power BI Data Viz World Champion! First round ends August 18th. Get started.

PBI desktop format pane goes back from Format to Add data when switching between visuals

Version: 2.120.731.0 64-bit (augustus 2023)

Since the latest update, formatting visuals takes a lot longer due to the format pane not remembering which element you were editing.

For example, I need to place visuals in a certain place so I need the General - Properties pane open.

When I now switch between visuals, it doesn't stay there anymore, but it always defaults back to the Add data pane in the format panel.

Can you please fix this? It worked (almost) perfectly in the previous version.

Hi  @Butterfly25

"When I now switch between visuals, it doesn't stay there anymore, but it always defaults back to the Add data pane in the format panel." Can you explain it in detail by way of screenshot or video ?

before the update, switching visuals like this didn't change the visible fields in the format pane. It was very easy to modify the same part of different visuals. Now you have to navigate to the part you want to edit for every visual.

To add on to this, kinda the same thing happens when formatting two visuals of the same type.

Example:

0) Have 2 visuals on the page, e.g. 2 tables or 2 bar charts

1) Select the 1st visual, go to "Format Visual" pane

2) Select the "General" tab, modify some property, e.g. Height

3) Without leaving the "Format Visual" pane, select the 2nd visual

4) The "Format Visual" pane gets switched to "Visual" tab instead of staying on the previously selected "General" tab

This was not the case in previous versions where the same tab stayed active unless de-selected. This complicates the process and makes it longer to adjust visual properties.

Do you have any updates on this issue?

It's really annoying that it takes so much extra clicks to change things.

It all started when MS introduced the on-object interaction, which I've switched off because I find it extremely frustrating when I'm developing more complicated reports (which is 99% of my time).
