Microsoft Authenticator Login problem. Stuck in Loop

Hello,

i was trying out power BI with my e-mail account set up as a personal account. But now i want to by a power BI license to share my dashboards with my coworkers. The problem is that when i try to buy the license, after typing the password it prompts me to approve using the microsoft authenticator app. I tried setting up the app in my phone but when i try to log in the app it also tells me to "Approve sign in request" with the app. How could i approve with the app if i cant log in? It is a loop...

when trying to add my account on MS Authenticator app, these are the steps I go thru:

1 – Clicked on ‘Add work account’

2 - Of the 2 options (Scan QR code or Sign in) - I chose Sign in

3 - Typed my email when prompted

4 - Typed my password

5 - Got a screen saying 'Approve sign in request' which tells me to open my MS Authenticator App to approve it. Well, I am already on the Authenticator app. So, there is nowhere to go from here. There is an option: 'I can't use my MS Authenticator app right now’

6 - When clicking on this option, there are 3 alternatives:

  1. Approve a request on my MS Authenticator app – I am already here, and I can't use it…
  2. Use a verification code from my mobile app - This the same thing as the previous option. It asks for a code from the same MS Authenticator

Both options A and B under the title 'I can't use my MS Authenticator app right now’ wants you to use the Authenticator app. This is got to be a mistake.

I think this might be because i set up the account as personal but now i need to change it to professional. If that is the case, how do i do it?

Hi @KE_1234 ,

Based on your description, your organization/company IT admin might have set up multi-factor authentication for your work account. You may check this by signing into any Microsoft 365 app, e.g. Outlook on the Web (https://outlook.office.com) or your Microsoft 365 portal (portal.office.com) via an inprivate browser window (to avoid cache).

(The inPrivate browser window (for Microsoft - Edge browser) / Incognito browser window (for Google - Chrome browser) is a browser window which will not save the browsing data (like your history, temporary internet files, and cookies). See Browse InPrivate in Microsoft Edge.)

Check if you can change your verification method from Authenticator app to mobile phone number or text message. See Change your two-factor verification method and settings - Azure Active Directory | Microsoft Docs.
