Lucene.Net load type error

Hi,

After updating Power BI to the latest version today (2.92.706.0, published 2021-04-16), restarting Power BI produced the following error:

Could not load type 'Lucene.Net.Index.Extensions.IndexWriterConfigExtensions' from assembly 'Lucene.Net, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=85089178b9ac3181'.

I could not find any reference to this error on the forums, and Googling produced no results connected to PowerBI. The error persisted when closing it, giving the same error over and over, while Power BI client itself was loading in the background after each error close. At the end the client just froze. Repairing the client with the PBIDesktopSetup_x64.exe file produced little difference. Initially the same error popped up, now the client is just stuck on blank grey screen, non-responsive, upon opening the client each time (closeable only from Task Manager). Error report below. Running Windows 10 Pro, v 20H2, OS build 19042.928. I was referred here from Desktop Help forum, hopefully the issue can be resolved somehow without requiring a new patch.

The latest version works fine for me. You may check Troubleshoot opening Power BI Desktop and try earlier versions from Power BI updates archive.

I have the same issue with one of my users.

Was able to fix this by uninstalling Power BI. Then deleting the folder in Program Files for Power BI. Once done, re-installed.

Thanks NickTT, I did what you suggested and not only repaired the lucene error but it got rid of another error I have had with Power BI Desktop for about a year now.

@NickTT The same worked for me. For some reason, an uninstall from Add/Remove Programs did not erase some files, so deleting the Program Files folder and reinstalling worked.
