LOG(0)stop visuals from rendering. Can it instead return an error to the visual, like LOG(BLANK())?

LOG(0) stop visuals from rendering. Can it instead return an error to the visual? e.g. LOG(BLANK()) returns -Infinity.

 

Also, I noticed that placement of an IFERROR statement around a variabe return doesn't supress the error, as shown below left, whereas putting it within the variable does, as shown below right. Is this related?
