Failed to update data source credentials

Using both PBI desctop and web versions. That issue didn't happen before. Here is the full text of the error:

Failed to update data source credentials: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid)

Thing is: the credentials are the same as the ones used to connect to server on the downloaded report. They work in the downloaded version but don't work in the web. We didn't apply any IP restrictions to credentials yet, so that couldn't be the issue.

Status: Investigating

Hi @Sviatoslav ,

In addition to make sure the correctness of the service name and credential, please make sure your SQL Server database and the machine that installed the database is running properly including its startup status and the port needed. Also, please check the status of your on-premises data gateway and make sure it can connect the data source smoothly. If needed, upgrade it to the latest version.

Here is an official document related to connect to SQL Server that might help you as well.

Please note, that the exact same credentials and server are being used on my desctop PBI app and there are no issues there.
