Exporting from Power BI Desktop into Excel Workbook

Currently, if using the Power BI Desktop, you can only export to Excel using the CSV format.  However, if the PBI report is published, online you can export it using the XLSX format.  How do we export data in Desktop to XLSX, and if we cannot, please add this to the Ideas.

Additionally, is it possilbe to export the data to look the same as it does in the dashboard?  IE column formatting/colours, conditional formatting, etc.

Hi,

According to my research, this is by design in the Power Bi desktop. I suggest you to use this online tool to simply convert the CSV file you exported to XLSX to achieve your requirement:

https://convertio.co/csv-xlsx/

If you have an idea to help to improve the PowerBI, you can go to the Power BI Idea to submit a new idea so that people with the same idea can vote for you. I will also vote for you.

Thank you very much!

Hi Robert,

I thought this was already posted in Ideas. Was that not the case?

Thanks for the tip on how to convert a CSV to XLSX, but that's not my issue. As I can get it in XLSX from the Online report, I don't understand why the desktop version is limited to CSV.
