Error / BUG in direct query from Azure SQL database

Hi,

I connected my file to an SQL database on Azure and chose the DirectQuery option.

The preview shows up OK; I see the added table in the relationships view; I see the data when I go into edit query.

But...

In the report view -

Fields don't show up in the right hand side and I'm unable to start creating visualizations.

Also, after about 20 seconds I get a "Unexpected error - Couldn't load the model schema".

When I switch to import instead of direct, everything works fine, but it's very important for me to use the DirectQuery for this project, so this is not an option.

Does anybody have any idea about this?

I cannot repro the same issue on my side. If you are using the latest version 2.48.4792.721 (July 2017) but issue persists, I suggest you to create a support ticket at http://support.powerbi.com (see bottom of page).

Hi @v-haibl-msft,

Thanks for you effort.

Actually I was able to reproduce this on 2 separate occasions on different versions whenever I added the port number to the SQL database host name in the connection settings when using a DirectQuery.

The funny thing is that putting the port number didn't interfere with anyhting when using the import option, but with DirectQuery there was this bug.

Thanks for the info about port number. I can repro the same issue as you. I’ve reported it internally to Power BI Team: CRI 43673803
I’ll post here once I get any update about it.

Best Regards,
Herbert

Please use comma to separate server name and port number.
