Direct Query Error: Invalid Connection Credentials

Hi,

I'm looking for some help troubelshooting an issue with my first Direct Query power bi report.

I have published to the power bi service but when I access the report all visuals are erroring and a red banner appears at the top of the screen saying:

Connection Error.png

The visuals have  the error message "Couldn't retrieve the data for this visual. Please try again later."

The report is linked to an on-premise data gateway which doesnt have a problem with all our import method power bi reports. I can manually refresh the report successfully. It works perfectly from the desktop applicaiton.  I have tried publishing using a sql server (the data source) sys admin user and my own AD credentials both of whcih should have access to the database. The data gateway doesnt have any errors.

Please can someone explain why I would be seeing issues here?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @dom99

Please go to Dataset Settings, find the gateway and mapped data source for this dataset. Then go to Manage Gateways section, find the data source, ensure the connection is successful and the Skip Test Connection is unchecked.

@v-qiuyu-msft

Hi,

Thanks for the response, I can confirm that the gateway and all connections pass the test successfully and are not skipped, and the dataset is linked to the gateway.

Do you have any other ideas why this might be happening?

Thanks
