Data labels don't work when using a custom theme

When using the default theme in Power BI desktop, I experience no issues when enabling Data labels in visuals. However, when using a custom theme the Data label slider won't slide to enabled:

I would like to keep using the custom theme AND using Data labels on visuals.

If I had more information myself, I could fix the problem too. However, it is as simple as when using a custom theme loaded as .json, the Data labels slider won't turn on. And it gives not the notification that the visual is too small. If I change the theme to a default theme, the Data labels slider will turn on. That gave me the clue that is was because of the theme.
