Copy a visual toggle does not appear in Visual Header

The "Copy from a Report Visual", which was introduced Mid April, is designed to have a toggle in the Visual header to disable it.  The instructions say to "If you are unable to find the Visual Header settingturn on the modern visual header option under Report Settings. "  Below I show that I've done that.  And for a simple Stacked Bar Chart, the toggle does not show.  In fact I can't find in on any of our Power BI reports or any of our visuals.  (As an aside, I don't see a comment button either which Maggie Tsang's visual showed in the link above)  We have our Power BI to automatically update to the current version.  Not sure how to access it.

Anyone else have this issue?  Any suggestions?

Tom

Hi @ThomasDay

It looks like you are looking for the "Copy visual as image" feature, right?

This feature is not available in Power BI desktop, you need to test it in Power BI service. See: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/visuals/power-bi-visualization-copy-paste#copy-a-visual-as...

@v-qiuyu-msft  There are many visual header features that don't "work" in Desktop but you set them for when you upload the model to Power BI Service.  If I understand you correctly, if I wanted to turn the feature off for visuals in any model, I upload the model to service, and then turn the feature off?

And then if I make changes or refresh and upload again, all the setting would need to be reset?  It sounds like that's what you're saying and I really don't understand why that makes sense.  I can't be the only one that modifies models and uploads a new version...frequently actually.  Not to mention refresh models from LAN based data sets.

Hi @ThomasDay

The Copy button and Comment button are available in Power BI service instead of Power BI desktop. As toggle of these two buttons is in visual modern header, we need to turn on the modern visual header feature in Power BI desktop ( you already done as the image shown in your original post).

Then publishing the report to Power BI service, view the report in edit mode, go to Format pane -> Visual header, find the Copy button and Comment button.

If they don't not display, for Comment button, please go to Report Settings in Power BI service, enable below option:

For Copy button, ensure the below option in Tenant Settings is turned on.

If you modify the report in Power BI desktop then republish the report, it doesn't affect the previous configured copy settings for this report, as these copy settings are configured in Power BI service. I would suggest you go through below links I already shared in my previous post:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/visuals/power-bi-visualization-copy-paste

If you have any further concern, please feel free to let me know. 😊

@v-qiuyu-msft

Thank you for the clarification.  Just so you know, I had read those links and RE-READ them.  While the setting clearly applies to Power BI service, it DOES NOT say they can only be set in Edit mode in Power BI service.  That would have saved us both some time.

That said, the Power BI development environment gets much more complicated when we have some setting which can only be applied to a model by editing in the Power BI service and all others  able to be applied in the Power BI desktop while WORKING in Power BI service.  That does seem a little strange to me.

As always, thank you for your help,

Tom

As a follow up to this post, I'd like to report the following situation:

  1. I have a report that I built in Power BI Desktop
  2. The Modern Visual Header is enabled on the report
  3. I cannot toggle the Copy as Image option from Power BI Desktop (as mentioned above)
  4. When I go to Edit the report in Power BI Service, I am not presented with the option to configure the Visual Header.
  5. Users in my organization are all set up to use the Visual Header in the Admin Portal.
  6. The Copy as Visual option appears in all visual headers for me by default.
  7. I am using a dark background, and the Copy as Visual functionality disregards the background color, rendering my white text unreadable.

Thus, I am stuck with functionality that does not work, and which I cannot remove. Any ideas why I cannot edit the Visual Header from Power Bi Service? For now, I guess I will disable this function for all users in Admin Portal. Please advise if there is another option.

I can confirm that while I can set the Copy toggle in Power BI Service, when I publish a new version of the report (we use One Drive to store the pbix file) all my changes made in the service are lost.

This Copy Icon feature is totally broken. To only viable option is to turn it off at the Tenant level.

Whats worse is that this has been an issue since release in May 2020...
