Can no longer connect to Azure Data Lake Gen 2

Hello,

My data source is ADLS Gen 2, which was working find up until September 16. Now I get a non-descript error when trying to connect to the datasource from Power BI desktop. The published report is refreshing without an issue, so it seems specific to desktop.

Also, when trying to refresh the data in desktop, it gives this error:

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Mashup.Cdm.ICdmProvider, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Any help would be appreciated - I'm supposed to get this report out and I'm dead in the water!

Has anyone a ticket raised with Microsoft on this? I'm finding that working with an older version is still not ideal as it breaks other features.

@v-yetao1-msft  are the Devs aware that this is an issue?

@v-yetao1-msft I am on Power BI Desktop Version: 2.122.746.0 64-bit  and experience the same issue.

The problem occurs when attempting to refresh existing reports and adding new data from Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 with Get Data.

I can confirm that this is STILL happening with my November 2023 version 2.123.742.0 64-bit.

I am going on over a month not being able to help my client because Microsoft introduced this bug.

I can verify that I DO in fact have access to the ADLS Gen 2 storage account where the Data Flow is saving the data, and can browse the folder and data using a tool such as Microsoft Azure Storage Explorer.

But Power BI says, "Access to the source is forbidden."

Let's GO Microsoft, we need a fix for this ASAP!

@WomanToBlame @FilipLauridsen @brendan_w_FWM

I just now solved this for my installation. First, I downloaded and installed an older version of Power BI Desktop (August 2023) because I KNOW that the last local refresh of my file was in September, and the issues started in the October release. But alas, that version threw the same error. Therefore I concluded that a later version of Power BI Desktop, as much as we have ranted about it in this thread, did not cause the issue.

I checked my permissions on the storage account. They were, and always had been "Contributor" as inherited from the subscription itself. I had the subscription admin bump up my role assignment to include Storage Blob Data Owner and that solved the issue for me.

Please try that and report back on this thread if it works. Best of luck all.

@ToddChitt - thanks. I just checked again this morning and it appears to be working without any changes to permissions. Version: 2.123.742.0 64-bit (November 2023) Unfortunately, because this was not working for so long, I had to completely change my process. As of yesterday, the new process is broken 😞
