subreport link change, changes save state for calling report builder session

Issue raised in the pbi community, subreport link change, changes save state for calling report builder session

with no resolution.  Posting here to see if this is a bug.

Status: Delivered

In a sense, calling a report from Power BI Service also represents open this report in the Report Builder, although you have not edited the report, so the Save button is disabled.

In addition, refer to my previous reply, the report which in Power BI Service is published from Report Builder, it is stored on Power BI Service, not in the local, any ways you call the report are always calling from Power BI Service.

Actually the essence of this issue is open an existing paginated report from Power BI Service in Report Builder.

Currently as far as I know it is by design, not a bug, please see: From Report Builder, publish a paginated report to the Power BI Service

If you open an existing paginated report from the service, the Save option is disabled because you're updating a report that's live in the Power BI Service.

In other words, when you publish paginated report, it is saved in Power BI Service not the local because Report Builder will remind you to name the published report and this named report could not be found in your local so it will be seen as 'get report from Power BI Service', not the local.

Yes I agree with you.

The issue is within the calling report (being worked on in Report Builder designer) so I still do not see why the save functionality is disabled within designer.  All the change at that point in time is creating a pointer to the live report which does not effect the live report.  The call is just a pointer to the existing report.  With no dirtying of the called report at all.

Maybe I am still not understanding fully.  Please explain further.

What rubbish so when you are working on a report and you have a subreport call you can not save what you are working on!?

So this means making non-subreport changes.  Save to version control.  Restore the subreport links.  Publish.

Every change you have to restore the subreport links, then loose them, then start over, repeat.

How laugh-able ...
