Hello,
I have just tried to install PowerBI Desktop within the Windows Sandbox and it fails with the below error. The sandbox doesn't have the Store, therefore the installation (PBIDesktopSetup.exe & PBIDesktopSetup_x64.exe, Both have Properties:Fileversion 2.103.661.0) must be downloaded manually from here.
The host system that I tested on was Windows 10 Enterprise 20H2; the error message is below.
The error of "authentication failed" is a bit weird, since the crash occours directlty upon launch, there is no oppertunity to authentciate. The windows sandbox user is local admin, right-click and run-as-admin makes no difference. Interestingly the "report error" function within PowerBI also directly fails.
I do not claim to understad the stack trace, but there are a number of references to AnalysisServcies suggesting that PowerBI requires some Windows10 telemetry that is not avilable within the sandbox. The installer does not appear to have a command line switch for opt'ing out of telemetary, this can only be done once the application has loaded (under options) however, since PBI crashes before getting that far, the options page cannot be accessed.
