Updating a model from direct query to in memory did not allow me to schedule a refresh

Hi,

I have created a Power BI Model using Power BI Desktop in Direct query mode.

I upload it to Power BI web, everything is working.

Now my users dislike the performance of the direct query model.

So I change the model to in memory mode, publish it.

Everything is working...

except the GUI to setup the automated refresh and the connection to my gateway.

So I cant refresh my model from the power bi web site.

and I cannot delete it, because I have online reports connected to this model. If I drop it, I'll drop the reports too, and I cant do it for now.

so how I can get the options to refresh my model?

Thanks.

You need to use gateway to schedule refresh. You can refer to following documents about how to install and configure a gateway.

https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-gateway-onprem/

https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/guided-learning/powerbi-learning-4-6-install-configure-personal-...

BTW, you should post need help threads in other forums (e.g. Desktop, Service… forums) but not Issues forum.

hi, Thanks for the post, but its not related to the gateway. My gateway is allready in place , as the direct query model is working. the problem is related to Power BI Web, which is not allowing me to configure the refresh when I convert my model from a direct query mode to an in memory mode. If I publish my in memory model into another name instead of replacing the existing one, I can have acccess to the refresh options. Only replacing an existing model suffer the problem. its why I post this in the issue forum, its an issue.

@Willgart

Thanks for you explanation and I can repro it now. I’ve reported it internally to Power BI Team: CRI 28158320

I’ll post here once I get any update about it.

This is by design now. However, Power BI Team can apply manual mitigation to change its mode. To apply manual mitigation, you need to provide the full name of the dataset, the user email, dashboard URL/report URL.

Please post back if you need to change it.
