Terrible performance adding / editing any measure in Power BI Desktop

I have a model with about 30 tables, and a reasonable (not excessive) number of calculated columns and measures.

Now adding a measure takes about a minute. It's got considerably worse over time.

So that means you wait a minute before can even start editing the DAX.  Then however simple the measure is, wait another minute after hitting enter. Heaven forbid that you don't the DAX absolutely perfect first time, because it's another minute for every edit.

CPU is basically pegged at 100% the whole time. I understand some impact analysis might need to run - but 100% CPU for a minute?!

You may need to consider optimizing your data model first in Power BI Desktop, see:

  1. Data reduction techniques for Import modeling
  2. Composite model guidance in Power BI Desktop
  3. DirectQuery model guidance in Power BI Desktop

In addition, to edit/add DAX formulas in Power BI Desktop, you can try to edit in other tools in advance like DAX formatter, external tools like DAX Studio which could show the performance when you open this report and create DAX formulas in it.
