SQL2014 SSAS Multidimensional Data Source Results in Many Disabled Power BI Features

I am trying to figure out if this is just a versioning issue, or if we need to switch to tabular SSAS.

 

We are running Microsoft SQL Server 2014 - 12.0.4100.1 (X64) SSAS in Multidimensional mode.  But when we connect Power BI to any of our cubes, many features get disabled such as:

 

  • You cannot create calculated measures
  • You cannot change the aggregation method on a measure
  • You cannot join in other data sources

Is this by design?  I can't find anything online indicating other people are having these issues.  Would this be fixed if I upgrade to 2016 or do I need to switch to tabular to have the full capabilities of Power BI?

From your description, it seems you get data from SSAS multidimensional model in a live connection, right? 

 

If it's live connection to SSAS multidimensional model, it's by design. You can vote on below ideas:
