Refresh Error / Failure

For the last week or so, I have random refresh errors - usually something along the lines of "Unknown Exception".   Similar issue refreshing in service or refreshing on desktop.  have uninstalled / re-installed gateway and pbi desktop.  no difference.  This is new behaviour and no structural changes have been made to the data source (MS Access file).  The issue is randomly consistent - that is, it may occur once, then another attempted refresh will work (or won't work).    The most recent error is (from pbi desktop):

@Bgladding ,

Check if the credentails are valid and if there's some permissions like "read" are not allowed on MS access side. You can also doc below to troubleshoot this issue.

Thank you for your reply - credentials are fine.  I am the sharepoint owner (where the data is stored), the creator of the Access database, the owner of the Workspace, and the creator of the pbi report.

The link that you provided does not seem to address the issues that I'm having.Annotation 2020-01-28 192213.pngAnnotation 2020-01-28 192213_list1.pngAnnotation 2020-01-28 192213_list2.png

The issue is random - it will fail sometimes, and then be fine.  Scheduled refresh will work one time and then not work the next.  Manual refresh will not work then will work.  This happens in both the Desktop pbix file and in the pbi service.

Nothing has changed in the data source (aside from daily incremental updated information).

Noting has changed in the gateway (aside from an updated gateway service).

The attached show the most recent error in the service as well as a sampling of the recent update history.  Note in the history that refreshes that fail or succeed are both scheduled and on demand.

This issue is also not limited to one data source and one workspace.  I am having the same issue with three different data sources in three different workspaces.

Any further insights are appreciated.

thanks,

b

I should also have mentioned - look at the refresh history for 23 Janaury.  Note that the on demand refresh failed at 7:59, then 8:01, then worked at 8:05.

Again, no changes to the data source or pbi reports.  Just repeated attempts to refresh.

thanks,

b

Here is a refresh history for this evening.  Basically a series of fails followed by a completion.  No changes in the data source, the gateway, permissions, etc.
