Power Bi Desktop App not working - Stuck on Initializing Model

Trying to open my PBIX files and the desktop application. nothing open up. It just gets stuck. i have even downloaded the App again. below is the Pic of the error.

it closes down saying: A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running.

Completely blocked from using PowerBi at this point.  Reinstall of the Desktop Client did not help.

I am facing same issue since Friday i.e. even before installing March update. I even tried to uninstall and install but nothing helped.

We’ve identified the issue – it’s related to a Windows Defender update that shipped recently. While we work to resolve it, the workaround is to add the msmdsrv.exe process to the exclusion list. Instructions on how to do that are here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028485/windows-10-add-an-exclusion-to-windows-defender-ant.... Or can also work around this issue by running the following command from an elevated command prompt: "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe –resetplatform"

@kimani: Thanks for the update and it worked with the suggested workaround. 

I have tried to add an exclusion under Windows Defender Security Center, and then select Virus & threat protection > Virus & threat protection settings > Add or remove exclusions.  But that was not fixing the issue for me.

Then when I tried the other one by running the cmdlet, it worked successfully and now I am able to open the PowerBi files without any errors.
