Inconsistent status and crash reports

Troubleshooting issues with gateway refresh is difficult. Multiple places in the UX report the error but they all report different things.

A: Data sets tab says that there is an  error, but when you click on it it doesn't say why.

B: Refresh details says that it is in progress.

C: Says that the refresh is undefined.

This makes looking into PowerBI a lot of detective work. This cuts into time that I would be spending on analysis.

How long did the 'in progress' state keep? Can you see the failure details for those Failed records? For the undefined issue, could you please try to disable and enable schedule refresh to see if it can be fixed?

Hi Vicky,

How long the process took depends on whicch area you look at. Note that the issue is not that the refresh crashed (that is a different problem) the problem is that the different windows report different things. This leaves the user with uncertainty about what is going on. Should I restart the process? The error is inspecific,  should I download the PBIX file and refresh to see if I can figure it out? One of the windows still says "in progress" should I just wait? Because of the ambiguity it is difficult to deciden what to do.

The one in  the example took a long time (more than an  hour). I can't see failure results for individual records (gateway only shows crash stats for the refresh  as a whole). I could disable and run it agin, I actually did this to solve the  problem. I think you may be focusing on the gateway refresh crash, which is not the problem that I'm pointing out here. The gateway crash isn't the probelm. The fact that it that the crash reports are inconsistent and ambiguous is the problem that I'm pointing out here.

If the refresh is failed, you should be able to click Show to see the detailed error message. If the refresh is always in progress which seems to be hang. I think we can go to the gateway to check the status of it. If it is offline or even crashed, we need to restart it.

For the issue that last refresh succeed is shown as undefined, I have not seen such problem before. Do you have detailed repro steps for it?
