Group Zip Codes For Custom Region

I'm currently looking for a way to group zip codes to create custom regions for an area map. Is this possible?

The data is stored in this format. I'd like to create an area map where zip codes that have the same group are the same color. The colors of the areas on the map would be shaded by a sum of "metric".
