Failed to save modifications to the server. The end of the input was reached

Using PBIP project. October 2023 version.

 

I could not open my client's report. I received this error message:

 

Stack Trace Message:

Failed to save modifications to the server. Error returned: 'The end of the input was reached.

The following system error occurred:  Out of present range.

Datatype conversion failed for [Table: 'powerbi vw_resident_care_agg_by_care_level_shift', Column: 'effective_date', Value: '20230425']. (powerbi vw resident care agg by care level shift (76); effective date (290)).

I had to open Tabular Editor and delete a hidden date heirarchy table that had a relationship to get the model in a state to open again.

I refreshed the data and the report was fine.  What happened?
