Error Message - A Connection cannot be made

Trying to open Power BI desktop and seeing this error:

 

'A Connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running'

 

I am not trying to access a particular file just open POWER BI desktop in general, but seeing this on each attempt. Help! Anyone know how to resolve this?

This error message usually indicates that Power BI Desktop is unable to connect to the data source. There are a few things you can try to resolve this issue:

1. Check if the server is running: Make sure that the server you are trying to connect to is running and accessible. You can try pinging the server to see if it responds.

2. Check the connection string: Ensure that the connection string you are using is correct and that it points to the correct server and database.

3. Check the firewall settings: Make sure that the firewall settings on the server and client machines are configured to allow the necessary traffic to pass through.

4. Check the credentials: Ensure that the credentials you are using to connect to the data source are correct and have the necessary permissions to access the data.

If none of these solutions work, you may need to contact your IT department  for further assistance.
