Date format on export

I have a data table, that includes a date column.

The column is not always populated, in this case the column is formated as a decimal number , typical of a date in number form.

Example of the column when opened in Excel.

Partly populated.PNG

If the column is completely populated, then the column is correctly populated.

Is the formatting controled by Power BI or Excel?

thanks, Si

Can the date column be shown properly in Power BI Desktop before you export it? Do you repro this issue intermittently? I just try to repro it locally but has no success. Could you please provide your PBIX file to me? You can upload it to online file service like OneDrive and share it.

BTW, you can check the Cancel Date column format in excel, it is Custom in the exported file in my side.

Herbert

Is there a way i can mask the data? I have client sensitive data that I cant release outside of the firm.

I know this is an option in other data presentation software.

Maybe you can try with following site to create dummy data for your data source. Then have a try to see if you can repro the issue with these dummy data. If yes, you can share your PBIX file to me with no sensitive data.

Hi,

I have tried to recreate the following, taking the data from a excel file. However, I can not replicate the issue.

I have returned to my orginal PBIX file, and can confirm that the column's data type is set as a Date/Time as is the column in the underlying SQL table.

I have scrambled the data within the table & reloaded. The file is available here

I’ve tried to export data from the table visual in your PBIX file several times. And I can always get the correct Cancel Date format in my Excel 2016.

Maybe you can try on some other machines which have different excel version to see if it helps.

I am having the same issue. I use a matrix visual to show the data on Power BI but when it is exported the date format is changing to date-time format. I am using SSAS tabular model as the data source. I have verified that the date format is MM/DD/YYYY in the model.  Is there a way to fix this.

Thanks in advance.
