Block Microsoft Teams from Creating Power BI Workspaces

Microsoft Teams are creating associated Power BI workspaces. The whole organization creating thousands of Microsoft Teams will be resulting in thousands of obselete power bi workspaces. Need a way to block the workpaces creation.

Hi @deepu299,

I got information below:

In fact Teams does not create a PBI workspace!

Teams create a O365 group and PBI use the O365 groups created (in the same way the group can be created for SPO, etc.)

When the Workspace V2 will be GA, the PBI Admin can choose to migrate all groups to V2 and then no more O365 Groups will be created in PBI.

In the meantime there is nothing to do.

@v-qiuyu-msft Thanks Qiuyun. Follow up question on this - O365 groups are created when a PBI Workspace is created and V2 doesn't allow this to happen, so when an workspace is created a O365 group wwill not be created anymore. Is this true viceversa as well? Because in the exmaple you explained, it's the other way.

Every time I just create an Office365 group (whatever the purpose, Power BI, Onedrive...) a V1 workspace is created in Power BI !

We grant workspace membership through O365 groups, but won't assign the same name to both because we want to keep final Power BI applications a short name. Whereas our group names include eyesore tags like business unit, country, aso.

So, we have to tell our user "yes, you can see 10 workspaces, but please do not use the 5 ones with an ugly, long name" 😞
