Adding Content Links to an App to another Power BI report does not work in the content area

Hi. I was excited to see that we now have the ability to add arbitrary links to an app. I would like to use it to provide access to reports in Workspace A to the users in Workspace B, through B's app. (B users have full access to A's reports.)

Here's the weirdness: It works fine if I set the link to open in the current tab or a new tab. But if I want it to open in the content area, I get this error:

In contrast, with an arbitrary web page I can have it show up in the content area or the current tab or a new tab.

Is this on the todo list to fix?

Hi @aseagull ,

Please check  the  thread Getting error - app.powerbi.com refused to connect after embedding the report in web portal

This looks like a very similar problem and hopes to help you.

Hello @Anonymous and thank you for the pointer! If I've understood it correctly, the problem was resolved by properly encoding special characters in a URL parameter. Unfortunately, my URL does not have any such special parameters!

Here is an example:

https://app.powerbi.com/groups/a28bf34c-319c-4dbd-bac8-2fc4127a499b/reports/157b69ff-d12d-434e-93df-85d23daf3cb1

(I also tried adding "/ReportSection" to the end, to see if that made a difference. Nope.)

Is there a more appropriate way of dropping the link in there? I've used these links in other places (like a Sharepoint page) and it works fine. Just not embedded in the content pane for the app. ??

Thanks!
Amon

Mystery solved! Spandan at Microsoft clued me in that for the "Content Area", I need an *embed* link, not the regular URL. Ouch. As the Beatles sang, I should have known better...
