cannot load data from combined datasets over directquery (only some users affected)

Hi

We have a shared dataset 1, used from another PBIX (=dataset 2).

both a published into different workspaces.

Dataset 2 uses queries from dataset 1 over "PowerBI Dataset" online as Directquery. Also other datasources are there in dataset2.

When I see the report of dataset2 all pages work correctly. When some of my colleagous are viewing the report dataset2, the have with a single page problems, all other work as expected.

The page that does not work for them is related to a DirectQuery pointing to dataset 1.

Note also, that the model in dataset 2 has relations between dataset1 tables and this table coming from dataset 1 as directquery.

The error msg is: "Could not load the data for this vizual, please try later. see details"

The detail is:

Couldn't load the data for this visual

Couldn't retrieve the data for this visual. Please try again later.

Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details.

Could not reproduce it in my side as far as my test. When I tried to create the two datasets and used other accouts to access the report under Direct Query, the visual loaded data normally.

Perhaps you can try to check that whether these users who cannot see the visual data have the right access to dataset1 in Power BI Service first.

Yes, you were right. It was a simple problem with the rights. When using Directquery from one dataset to another, every user needs not only VIEW but also BUILD rights.
