Use of Semantic Data Model in PowerBI Desktop OneLake Data Hub does not display the table

I already updated the PowerBI Desktop to the latest update.

I created a semantic data model connecting to an Oracle database. We used a gateway pointing to correct datasource. If i try to use the web version of powerbi everything works fine. But when I use the PowerBI Desktop, at the bottom it says connected live to the Power BI semantic model but no table is being displayed.

Facts:

Report and semantic data model is working fine in PowerBI WEB

Cannot create report because semantic data model does not display any table

Additional Error message:

We couldn't connect to your model in the Power BI Service. The dataset may have been deleted, renamed, moved, or it is possible that you don't have permission to access it.

True

Hi @puramc

According to the error message, you really don't have access to this semantic model or the semantic model doesn't exist. Did you make sure your account on Desktop, has access to that semantic model?

Hi,

  • puramc successfully logged in PowerBI Desktop.
  • puramc successfully created the report using PowerBI Desktop.
  • puramc successfully published the report.
  • puramc successfully opened report using PowerBI web.
  • puramc successfully viewed the report.

I tried logging in as puramc and created a new report, i used the existing semantic data model that I previously created but gives out the error.

Thanks,

Hi @puramc

There is no such thing as not being able to connect if the reports are all created using one account. Do you have any other semantic model to connect to other than this one?

Ok now. Let’s use screenshots.

Let use PowerBI Web first.

Login using my account.

I clicked new report and clicked “Pick a published semantic model”

I used the BA_FUND semantic model that i created

And click auto-create report. As you can see, I have created a report successfully using PowerBI Web.

To answer your previous post.

There is no such thing as not being able to connect if the reports are all created using one account.

That's what i thought. We are in sync here.

Do you have any other semantic model to connect to other than this one?

This is my first time to use semantic model and third time testing by creating and recreating but the problem persist. The model is connecting to an Oracle database. I have successfully installed the required apps to be able to connect to it using PowerBI Desktop and was able to create a report and publish it to the web.
