Server Object Is Not Connected error

When I try to open a PBIX file, the command line briefly flashes:

Error0_Screenie.JPG

Then I see the error "Server Object Is Not Connected".

Error1_Screenie.JPG

I was able to interact with this report when I used the June version of PBI Desktop. I am able to interact with this report on PBI Service when I uploaded it using the June version.

Can you please advise how I can restore access to the report? I cannot access any of the prior versions of it either. Here is the error log:

I've tried reinstalling Power BI Desktop and restarting my computer. The error has not changed.

Hi @Anonymous,

Does the issue happen to this specific pbix file when using Power BI desktop August version?

Does the issue happen when you run Power BI desktop August version instead of opening the report?

Would you please share the pbix file with us? You can upload it to your OneDrive and send the link to me via private message.

Hi @v-qiuyu-msft

It is happening with the August version of PBI Desktop.

I am able to open other PBIX files.

I have sent you the link.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi @Anonymous,

I'm able to open your pbix file in Power BI desktop 2.61.5192.601 64-bit (August 2018).  Please check if it's version 2.61.5192.601 on your side. If not, please update your Power BI desktop then test it again.

Hi @v-qiuyu-msft, thanks for your message. I was running the same version.

I have not updated my version since my test yesterday, but I am able to open the file now.

Edit: I spoke too soon. I get an error when trying to save the file, telling me to close and restart PBI Desktop.RefreshError1.JPG

Then when I try to open the file again, I get a new error.

Hi @Anonymous,

I guess the issue might be related to your machine. Currently it's hard to provide further support on forum side. I would suggest you create a support ticket to get dedicated support.

Hi @v-qiuyu-msft, that is a good idea.

I was able to open the file when I uninstalled the August version of Power BI and installed the July version (2.60.5169.4101 64-bit (July 2018)).

My colleague was able to open it with the July version, but when he upgraded to the August version, he got the same error.
