SSAS multidimensional cube (live connection) with security on cell data does not work??

Hi all,

Yesterday evening I activated a new security setup on the multidimensional SSAS cube at my customer. This setup implements cell data setup in order to restrict access to some measures to a number of end users.

Today I had to roll back the security setup as, apparently, the end users are no longer able to see data in the PowerBI reports!

This report couldn’t access the data source. Contact the author to have it fixed.

I have no problems connecting to the same cube in Excel and the security setup behaves as required in Excel. I have been troubleshooting the issue and it seems that there are no problems as long as there is nothing specified in the ‘cell data’ segment.

What have I done wrong? How can I get this working?

Hi @Ojke,

From your description, it seems you create RLS role on SSAS side. Would you please share steps how you create roles? 

Please test as role with the same report in Power BI desktop to see if the same issue occurs.

Hi,

We denied access to specific measures in Create Role > Cell Data > Allow reading of cube content.

Apparently the is not compatible with Power BI.

We used a work around.
