Row-Level Security Members Combobox Matching Not Working Properly

There is a bug in the combobox that is used to add people or groups who belong to a Dataset Security Role in app.powerbi.com. Entering text matches AAD groups using "starts with" matching logic but does not return all matching AAD groups! I was entering 9 characters to match and it returned 8 matching AAD groups and left out at least another 6. To reliably find a match, I had to enter the full name of the desired AAD group which defeats the whole purpose of the combobox! If you aren't going to match on all groups, then make the control a simple drop-down instead of a combobox.

Hi,

What do you mean by “Entering text matches AAD groups using "starts with" matching logic but does not return all matching AAD groups”?

Would you like to post some screenshots which may show the issue detail more clearly so that it can help us to make sure if it’s an issue in the Power BI RLS.

Thank you very much!

Sorry, I cannot post screenshots for security reasons so let me explain the issue more clearly.

When assigning email addresses or AAD groups to RLS Security Roles for a Dataset, there is a combobox labelled "People or groups who belong to this role". One can start entering an email address or AAD group name and the email addresses and AAD groups that match are listed below (usual combobox behaviour). However, there is a bug. It does not list ALL matching email addresses and AAD groups!  In my case it listed about 8 of them but there were actually a total of about 16. To get the missing one to come up so that I could select one and click the "Add" button, I had to enter more characters in order to narrow the scope of the combobox search so that it matched only 2 names.

Hi,

Unfortunately, I can’t reproduce the same issue as yours.

In my opinion, if you want to get the opinions on the RLS Combobox from the Microsoft as soon as possible, I suggest you to open a support ticket to get direct help from the technical support team of Microsoft to have a remote session with you to help them to make sure if this is an issue existing in the Power BI.
