Power Query Online editors are all too slow

No matter how fast the source, no matter how  many queries exist in the Online Editor, the editor itself is a nightmare to work with.  The experience is constantly freezing.  The issue seems to relate to the editor freezing while it works through every step and tries to generate the Data/Schema view.

The editor needs the ability to hide these views, or provide an option of "Manual Preview" similar to how Excel allows uses to turn off Automatic Calculate.

Hi @RossEdwards ,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing slow performance with Power Query Online in Power BI Service. Usually, there are a few things you can try to improve performance:

1. Optimize your queries: Make sure your queries are as efficient as possible by removing unnecessary steps and reducing the amount of data being processed.

2. Reduce the amount of data being loaded: If you're working with a large dataset, try loading only the data you need for your analysis.

3. Check your internet connection: Slow internet speeds can affect the performance of Power Query Online.

If you would like to suggest this feature improvements, you may  vote the idea and comment here  to improve this feature. It is a place for customers provide feedback about Microsoft Office products . What’s more, if a feedback is high voted there by other customers, it will be promising that Microsoft Product Team will take it into consideration when designing the next version in the future.

Hi Caitlyn,

None of your suggestions are relevant as the issue of performance have nothing to do with the size of the queries and i'm using a large corporate internet. Queries can be 0.5s excel data reads and the outcome is the same.  I have little faith in the "feature improvement" section as it gets no real attention from Microsoft and works off a voting system.  That means issues like this are basically ignored as they don't draw in the same level of users.

The Power Query editors online are faulty as they force refresh previews in every circumstance.  It needs to be raised as an issue that the editors do not have a "manual" option that can be selected as a default.  It is likely this problem has never been brought to the attention of the product team.
