Power BI Service Table Load And Sort Errors

Hi PBI Support,

There are currently some reproducible errors in the Power BI service when trying to

1. Load a Table visulisation with conditional formatting applied across many columns
2, Sort a Table by one of the columns with conditional formatting

Setup is:

SSAS cube on SQL 2016
Compatibility Level 1200
Version 13.0.4457.0

Accessed though Live Connection via On-Premise Data Gateway

1. The Table when it correctly loads with Metric 2 sorted by defaulted. This Table has been cut down from the original 10 columns so it loads correctly:

2. When trying to sort by the Metric 1, 3 or 4 columns, an error message appears:

Other points:

1. If the report is exported as a PBIX and loaded into the latest November release of Power BI Desktop using Live Connection, the Tables load without issue. This seems to confirm a server side issue with Power BI service

2. SQL Server Profiler shows the query being correctly sent from Power BI service to the cube and the result being returned. Again, this seems to confirm a server side/processing issue with Power BI service

Hi @vnj,

I'm not able to reproduce the issue on my side. In your scenario, does this issue occurs to this specific cube database or all cubes? 

Please try to update the on-premise data gateway and Power BI desktop to the latest version then republish the report. 

If issue persists, please export the on-premise data gateway log file and upload it to your OneDrive, send the link to me via private message. Also please share the RequestID in the latest error message.

The issue occurs across multiple cubes on the same SQL 2016 server.

The On Premise Data Gateway is already the latest version 14.16.6524.1 and the report was already published using the latest Power BI Desktop December version.

The dashboard was also recreated in Power BI Service version 13.0.3419.168 with the same results.

The latest error message and request ID is listed below:

And I have PM'ed you the link to the gateway logs.

Also, I have used Fiddler to inspect the HTTPS traffic between Power BI service and the web browser when the errors occur.

I can see in SQL Server Profiler that the queries are being correctly received from Power BI service and the results correctly back from the server.

However, it looks like a processing issue with Power BI service because the errors being thrown are "EmptyStream" and "Query result contained empty stream" - see below:

Hi @vnj,

Thanks for your update. I go through the gateway logs but don't find detail error message. But I have found an error based on the Request ID, but I can't find the cause from the error after some research. As I don't reproduce the issue, I guess the issue should be related to Australia Southeast cluster. 

Till now, it's hard to deliver further support from forum side, I would suggest you create a support ticket to get better support from Microsoft engineer. Thanks for your understanding.
