Power BI Report Server - Report with sheduled refresh if updated does not work

Scenario:

- Power BI Report (build with PBI Desktop optimized for Report Server May 2019) uploaded to Report Server.

- Scheduled Refresh is created and active

- An updated version of the Power BI Report with some new fields is added, overwritting the previous one.

At this point, all the new parts of the report do not work anymore, the visuals become unavailable.

This is a huge issue as if there are no new data sources added, the scheduled refresh should continue to operate on top of the latest data model, and not on top of the initial one.

Sharing the development on the subject by Microsoft Engineering team:

"Our developers have implemented a fix for the issue now. But it may have been too late for including it in the September 2019 release of Power BI Report Server. We can check when the release is available. It is currently scheduled for the week starting September 23rd. There might be a delay if the product group finds unexpected problems during final tests. If the fix is not included we will have to wait for the next release. There is an official announcement for January 2020. But there might be further releases in 2019 if there are serious problems which need to addressed as soon as possible."
